You are legally required to...

  1. Stop driving immediately. Remain where you are. Do not leave the site.
  2. Take care of the injured.Call 119 for ambulance.
  3. Take measure to prevent any further accident. Place a warning sign beside your car if your car is on the highway. This is legally required. You should preserve the scene of crime. However, pull your car aside if it blocks the traffic.
  4. Report to the police. Call the local police office or 110 for emergency. You are required to report the date, time, location, number of the injured, the level of injuries, and other necessary information to the police.

Then...

  1. Get information of the other party.Ask the name, address, telephone number, and the insurance company of the other party.Be polite and considerate. However, do NOT admit liability or make any promises. Do NOT settle negotiations by yourself. (That is what we are here for!)
  2. Take notes. Find Witnesses.Take notes on each other’s position and any information on how the contact occurred.Find witnesses if you can. Ask for their name and address and write it down.
  3. Call ACE.Even if you are not able to complete all of the above yourself, call us for help. That is what we are here for! We are here 24 hours all year, in English, and for free.Do not forget, any delay may affect your coverage.
  4. Call us when you have reached the repair shop, if you want to have the car fixed on your own.

We make our best effort to help you understand the driving environment in Japan in this courtesy brochure. However, please understand that any difference in interpretation of the policy and legal matters should be settled based on the original Japanese text of our insurance terms and conditions or any relevant material.

Our coverage of insurance in Japan does not expand to countries abroad. Any legal disputes should be settled in Japanese language in a Japanese court or trial.

These contents are based on our policy and law as of October 2010.
