Caution on Traffic Violations
Obeying the laws is a must. However, we do understand that the focus may be different around the globe. Here are some points that you must keep in mind.
Obey Parking Laws
Japan is a small country with only 30% of inhabitable land bringing narrower streets and more traffic. You will hardly find any parking space in the metropolitan area. Recently, the society has become more aware that eliminating illegally parked cars on the streets reduces accidents significantly. Make sure you park only where allowed.
Keep to the Legal Speed
Japan is a country that uses the metric system. It may make you seem you are going slowly, but stick to the speed limit.
Wear the Seat Belt
Seat Belt is a legal requirement for all passengers, regardless of where they are seated, including women who are pregnant. Child safety seats are required for children without enough height to use the seat belt safely. Make sure to wear it effectively.
Park the Car Before Talking on the Phone
Talking on your mobile phone (or on any communication tool which requires holding) while driving is prohibited. Wait until you have parked your car safely before talking on the phone.
Don’t Drink and Drive
After numerous tragedies, Japanese law is now much stricter against drunk driving. Remember, Japan has the best public transportation system in the world, use it.
