ACE and the Environment

At ACE, we recognize our responsibility to provide solutions that help clients manage environmental risks, to reduce our own environmental impact and to make meaningful contributions to environmental causes.

Environmental Reporting
Our annual Environmental Report outlines the full scope of our commitment and activities to address environmental concerns. The company also includes an Environmental Statement in its annual report.

Environmental Solutions
ACE has been a pioneer in developing advanced environmental insurance solutions, including coverages for premises-based exposures, contractors’ and project pollution liability, and renewable energy and environmental cleanup projects, as well as “green building” consulting services and a property policy that enables greener rebuilding after a loss.

Carbon Emissions Reductions
Our company is focused on reducing its carbon footprint around the world and has achieved a 25% per employee reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2006. Energy conservation improvements have resulted in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications for ACE’s offices in Philadelphia and Hamilton, Bermuda, and Energy Star certifications for the company’s offices in Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del.

Recognition
ACE was one of three companies—and the only insurer—named to all four of the Carbon Disclosure Project’s 2012 leadership indices: the Global 500 Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) and Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), and the S&P 500 CPLI and CDLI.

ACE was listed 7th in the financial sector and 59th overall in Newsweek’s 2012 Green Rankings of the 500 largest U.S. companies.

Philanthropy
The environment is a priority in our corporate philanthropy as well. For example, recent grants from the ACE Charitable Foundations are helping to train farmers and improve agricultural yields in Indonesia, teach and implement sustainable agricultural techniques in the Peruvian Andes, and preserve sensitive lands and habitats across the U.S.

Employee Involvement
To engage our employees worldwide in our environmental efforts, ACE promotes the “ACE Green” program, though which employee committees in nearly 200 offices take steps such as powering off office equipment, reducing waste through recycling programs, and participating in volunteer clean-up activities in local communities.
